We went in last week for an update on our little guy. The Dr did confirm that we are 100% having a boy, and that all of his little organs are working and growing the way they should be.
Not everything was sunshine and roses, the ultrasound also uncovered a small issue with my umbilical chord. As most ladies who’ve had babies know, there are three vessels within the chord that give the baby the food/ oxygen they need and take away waste. My chord does not have all three vessels and instead only contains two vessels. This is not common, but does occur in 1-.5% of pregnancies. There is really nothing that can be done to ‘fix’ the chord, but I will be monitored very closely in the next twenty weeks.
It was a bit shocking to hear the words ‘high risk’ from my Dr. but I’ve been doing a lot of research of my own and do feel lucky, although I need to be careful and there are more risks involved than other pregnancies it could be so much worse. The big worry is that my body won’t be able to give the baby the nutrients he needs to grow, so they will check all of his little organ development and measurements and if that happens they may look at delivering him early.
Onto more fun developments this week, Monday morning Nick and I were laying around the house enjoying some time off together when out little boy decided to start kicking. These were the first kicks I’ve felt and Nick got to be there and was even able to feel them too! Since Monday we’ve been able to feel him every single day. It seems like he is most active around 11pm, The best moment was went Nick pushed a little on my stomach and within 3 seconds got a little kick on response. Someone did not like Daddy invading his space.
Sometimes it feels like our baby will be here in the blink of an eye and sometimes I think about how badly I want to meet him, and the fact that I have such a long time to wait! Before baby comes we still have our ‘baby moon’ (a week vacation in South Carolina), Halloween, Thanksgiving, our wedding anniversary, Christmas, and maybe even New Years if baby does not come early. If that list isn’t enough to keep me busy in the next twenty weeks then I don’t know what is.
Well that is all for this weeks update. I would love to hear from anyone who has had any experience with a two-vessel chord. Feel free to leave me a comment with your experience 🙂
